If you are searching for a luxury wedding venue in Long Island, the Hempstead House at Sands Point Preserve offers history, romance, and endless photo opportunities all in one. Once hidden under scaffolding for years during renovations, this breathtaking mansion officially reopened in May and is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after wedding venues in New York.

A Mansion with History and Character

Built in 1912, Hempstead House is one of four mansions on the Sands Point Preserve. Originally constructed as a Tudor-style castle for the Gould family, the home has hosted royalty, dignitaries, and lavish society gatherings. Today, it serves as a wedding venue in Long Island where couples can host both their ceremony and reception surrounded by timeless architecture, intricate stonework, and sprawling gardens.

Stunning Spaces for Your Wedding Day

What makes the Hempstead House wedding experience so special is the variety of spaces it offers. Couples can move seamlessly through the day with each part of the celebration set against a new backdrop.

  • Getting Ready Suites: The mansion includes some of the most beautiful bridal and groom prep rooms in New York, complete with natural light, vintage details, and enough space for wedding parties to relax.
  • Ceremony Spaces: Exchange vows in one of the formal gardens, on the terrace overlooking the Long Island Sound, or inside the grand interior rooms with soaring ceilings.
  • Cocktail Hour: Guests can mingle in the outdoor courtyards, manicured lawns, or one of the dramatic stone halls.
  • Photo Opportunities: With multiple gardens, ivy-covered walls, terraces, and waterfront views, you’ll never run out of locations for timeless portraits.

Reception Options

Inside, the Great Hall is one of the venue’s most breathtaking features with 60-foot vaulted ceilings, a massive fireplace, and Gothic-style windows. It feels both regal and intimate, perfect for a romantic dinner or dance floor that feels like a fairytale.

For larger weddings, tents can be placed on the lawns outside the mansion with the castle-like architecture as a backdrop. The flexibility makes it a great fit for weddings of all sizes.

Capacity and Pricing

The Hempstead House can host up to 300 guests indoors for a reception and more if you opt for tented outdoor spaces. Rental fees vary depending on the day and season, but expect venue pricing to start around $5,000–$10,000 for the space, with catering and rentals additional. Because it is part of Sands Point Preserve, some weddings also contribute to the upkeep and preservation of the historic property.

Why Choose Hempstead House for Your Wedding?

Choosing a venue is more than picking a pretty backdrop. At the Hempstead House, couples get the chance to create a wedding that feels like stepping into history while also enjoying modern amenities. From the moment you arrive, you are surrounded by natural beauty and architecture that feels like a European estate just minutes from New York City.

If you are looking for a Long Island wedding venue that blends romance, history, and luxury, Hempstead House is truly one of the best choices.
