This past spring, I had the incredible opportunity to attend New York Bridal Fashion Week and photograph some of the most iconic bridal designers of our time. From Galia Lahav’s dramatic couture gowns to Justin Alexander’s timeless silhouettes, the runway shows set the tone for the wedding dress trends of 2025. As both a film and digital wedding photographer based in New York City, capturing these collections behind the scenes was a dream.
The Designers Who Stole the Show
I attended and photographed several standout shows, each with its own unique point of view:
- Galia Lahav – Known for pushing the boundaries of couture bridal, Galia’s gowns featured daring cuts, romantic lace, and over-the-top trains.
- Justin Alexander – A collection that celebrated timeless elegance while weaving in modern details brides are craving.
- Nicole + Felicia – Bold, sculptural gowns that felt equal parts high fashion and fairy tale.
- Leah Da Gloria – Sophisticated details, curve-hugging silhouettes, and masterful lacework.
- Viktor & Rolf Mariage – Playful yet chic designs, including unexpected textures and dramatic bows. Which we have now seen Madeline White in already this year.
- Alyssa Kristin – Minimal, modern, and chic – perfect for brides who want clean lines with statement details. She said she knows what women care about “boobs, butt, and their waist.” She has done just that!
Bridal Trends for 2025
Walking away from Bridal Fashion Week, a few trends were undeniable:
- Ballgowns are back – Oversized skirts and voluminous layers are taking center stage.
- Exaggerated trains – Designers leaned into drama, creating gowns that float behind the bride in the most cinematic way.
- Feathers & texture – From Viktor & Rolf to Galia Lahav, feathers added a whimsical and bold edge.
- Bold colors – Pops of pastels, champagne, and even darker tones made appearances alongside traditional ivory.
- Romantic lace – A staple that continues to evolve, lace was reimagined in both classic and modern forms.
These design elements signal a season where brides can embrace personality and artistry while still holding onto timeless romance.
Photographing Fashion Week on Film and Digital
As a New York wedding photographer, I approach Bridal Fashion Week with the same philosophy I bring to weddings: timeless imagery that tells a story. Shooting both film and digital allowed me to capture the atmosphere in different ways. Film gave the collections a dreamy, nostalgic quality, while digital ensured every bold color and intricate detail was crisp and true to life.
The behind-the-scenes energy was just as inspiring as the runway itself, models stepping into gowns, last-minute adjustments by designers, and the buzz of anticipation before the lights came up. These candid, authentic moments are the ones I love to preserve, whether backstage at NYBFW or on a couple’s wedding day.
Final Thoughts
Attending New York Bridal Fashion Week Spring 2025 was an unforgettable experience, not only as a wedding photographer but also as a creative inspired by fashion. The artistry, craftsmanship, and evolving bridal trends left me more excited than ever for the upcoming wedding season.
If you’re a bride searching for inspiration—or simply dreaming about your perfect gown, this year’s collections prove that bold romance and individuality are at the forefront of bridal fashion.
