There’s something undeniably magical about shooting on film—the rich tones, the soft grain, and the nostalgic feel that digital just can’t quite replicate. As a wedding photographer in New York City, I’ve been eager to incorporate more film into my work, so when I got my hands on the Canon EOS-1V, I knew I had to put it to the test.
The Last 35mm Film Camera from Canon
The Canon EOS-1V holds a special place in photography history. It was Canon’s last professional 35mm film camera before fully transitioning to digital, and it remains a favorite among film enthusiasts and sports photographers alike. Its lightning-fast autofocus, excellent low-light performance, and rugged build make it a powerhouse even today.
One of my favorite features? The EF lens mount. If you’ve ever owned a Canon DSLR, chances are you already have lenses that will work with this camera—making it an easy transition for anyone looking to explore film photography without investing in entirely new gear.
My First Roll of Film
When I purchased the camera, I was thrilled to find that there were still about 20 shots left on a roll of Kodak 400 film inside. I took that as a sign and immediately started shooting to make sure everything was in working order. The results? Stunning. The autofocus is quick and precise, and the dynamic range of film captured light and shadows beautifully.
After getting the roll developed, I was beyond excited to see that every frame came out perfectly—this camera is in top shape and ready for some serious portrait work!
