New York City has been absolutely freezing lately, and with wedding season in a slower phase, I’ve been using this time to experiment with flat lays and refine my styling techniques. It’s been so refreshing to create something bright and airy while the winter chill lingers outside. Last week, I put together this coastal-inspired flat lay, and I love how it turned out—it instantly transports me to a sun-drenched seaside wedding!
For this composition, I wanted to capture the soft elegance of a coastal celebration. I started with a neutral fabric backdrop to keep things light and breezy, allowing the details to shine. The invitation suite, with its delicate blue and white design, set the tone for the theme, reminiscent of nautical toile patterns. To enhance the coastal aesthetic, I incorporated soft blue hydrangeas, scattered naturally throughout the scene. Their airy, romantic quality brought such a beautiful balance to the structured paper goods.
One of my favorite elements in this flat lay is the golden-edged oyster shell. Not only does it tie into the oceanic theme, but it also adds a luxurious touch, especially when paired with a delicate pearl necklace that drapes effortlessly across the frame. Speaking of pearls, I also included a pearl ring placed atop a freshly cut lemon—one of my favorite unexpected details. Fruit in flat lays has been such a growing trend, and I love how the lemon introduces both a pop of color and an organic, lively element. The circular slices also subtly mimic the shape of the engagement ring and pearl bracelet, creating a sense of cohesion.
To round out the details, I styled a dainty ring dish, another lemon slice, and a perfume bottle, each carefully placed to bring balance to the composition. Every piece contributes to the story—one of elegance, freshness, and coastal charm.
I love using the off-season to push my creativity and try new styling techniques. This flat lay reminded me how small details, like natural textures and unexpected elements, can make a wedding suite feel even more special. What do you think? Are you a fan of incorporating fruit into wedding details? Let me know—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
